Happy Memorial Day all!

This was another fun/crazy/busy/drunk family weekend! We just never seem to get sick of each other, making plans, or making drinks!

It was amazing to have the entire family together again, including our newest member "the lil nugget" (sister #3's new puppy!!). Also, not to take the spotlight away from sister #1 (who in all aspects of her life strives to be #1, trust me she did not stop with birth order) completed her first FULL marathon this weekend! 26.2 miles in 4 hours. We are all very proud of her.

Battle of the EXES

So, since recently breaking up with my CT boy CG, we have decided to take time apart and perhaps see other people. When I suggested this, I was only thinking about ME seeing other people, not him. Well I was corrected when he told me that he has taken some girl out on two dates... that's right TWO. No longer is that going on a date...that is datING. Not sure how to feel about that. AND he invited her to the casino this weekend, let's just hope he doesn't get lucky.

I think the real problem here is that I ASK him this stuff. I'm just so self-destructive is sickening, I decided I no longer want to know what he's doing. Ignorance is bliss.

PS- I HAAATE losing the "who's more over who" game.

The first date.

So, please do not freak out, but I went on a date with bartender D. We JUST went mini golfing, really it was nothing crazy. He picked me up. He paid. Oh and he won. Go figure. It was actually better than I anticipated, he is much better in person than he is via text messaging, so perhaps there is hope for him yet, but I won't hold my breath.

Other than that, not much else to say, he has since texted or called me daily. He wants to go out again, I figured I'll let him sweat it out a bit then accept, I mean what's the worst that can happen? I realize I don't want to date him? Already know that, may as well get some food and drinks out of this thing.

Last and LEAST is that I have discovered he DIPS. SUCH a dealbreaker. . . .not only from a nursing perspective because that sh*t causes cancer of the mouth. . . .but from "a girl who potentially kiss this guy" perspective...ugh so unenjoyable! However when I made a SIIIICK face at him when I saw his spit cup...he responded with "you should like me for who I am, not what I do." So that's that, but I think that what you do makes you who you are. But I try to judge, so I guess we'll agree to disagree.

It's my birthday!!

Another year older, and I'd like to hope all the wiser. As far as birthdays go...this was a FABULOUS day. I did not have to work so sister #3 and I laid out at the beach all day then went shopping and out to dinner. I opened presents (which included a pandora bracelet, danskos, lacoste wristlet, and pedicure giftcard. . . .like I said, fabulous). Although sisters 1 and 2 could not be here...they called me about 3 times today...as well as text me, and sang happy birthday, so they were here in spirit! And I will be seeing them next weekend! =) I will also be seeing my best friends from school and my best friends from home for our party tomorrow night...details about that later!

Also, went on my first date with bartender D today (on the birthday! I know, a little bit much) details about THAT later too!

That's all for now.

Friends don't let friends date bartenders.

So, in case the last THREE chances I gave the bartender to prove me wrong about my fairly established opinion of him weren't enough....he just blew his fourth. God, there should be a sign in that place that says DATE responsibly. Pretty sure I can handle the shots he gives me MUCH better than I can handle the bullshit he gives me.

This just in....

So after my official write-off of Bartender D, I did not expect to hear from him all day, and I didn't. Then at around 6:00 he called me (as if I would magically forget that he sucks? Nope. I remembered). His opener, this is a killer, "What are you doin tonight?" HAH! Does this guy HONESTLY think I don't remember last night. . .I mean come on? ESPECIALLY the very next night, at LEAST give it a couple days for it to not be so fresh in my mind that you're a HOT MESS when it comes to planning a date. I OBVIOUSLY will not be seeing him tonight. His excuse was "I left my phone at my Grandma's. . .I didn't know you texted." Yeah ok, clearly a crock of shit, sorry D. . .I'm just not that into you.

The single life.

So, my family likes to hangout at this one bar in our town. It's usually fun when were all there and we've gotten to know the people who own it pretty well. One of the guys that works there, D, is younger and pretty good looking, so obviously I turn on the charm when I'm in there...it gets HIS attention and gets ME free drinks, so it's a win win. Well apparently I'm just irresistible because he asked me out on a date. Don't get excited...

This is the sequence of events.... My sister, miss matchmaker, gave him my number at the bar one night and he txt me
"you look hott." What a charmer.
So I responded (do NOT remember this...I was about 7 or 8 vodka diets deep) "how original D, tell me something I don't know."

Went home that night and ate TWO PIECES OF PIZZA WITH RANCH (I could have dieddd), but that's beside the point.

Two days later he txt me to hangout at 11PM. I was like well...I mean I'm not gonna go over that late, that's just suggestive behavior, not into that scene.

Then after that we'd chat during the day, nothing too exciting. So he asked me to hangout again tonight. He called me at like 6 and I was considering it. He went to his grandma's for dinner so he said he'd txt me after. Well it's 930...still have not heard from him (I'm thinkin Gram's gotta be sleeping by now right?). So I txt him to pick me up on his way home....heard nothing. Then he was like "sorry, I'm playing cards."

Like, did I miss something? 1. We had plans. 2. Thanks for letting me know you no longer would be able to keep those plans. 3. Have fun playing bridge with your grandmother and her friends?? Deal breaker. See you never.

Oh the updates...

OK, so since I basically have been MIN (missing in NURSING) for the past few months I have not been able to update! Well here it is, I hope you're ready.

The first piece of news is that I recently broke up with my CT boy. . . it sucks but it was a mutual thing. It was too difficult to manage the long distance relationship with me in nursing school and him working full-time AND going to graduate school. He expected more of me than I was ready for and to keep it short and sweet, it was not working. We're still good friends and I'll always love him and maybe one day it will work out but that day is not today.

Second piece of news is that I am living at home for the summer working at the ice cream place I worked at for the past two years with my sister and 4 of our friends, making necessary money for school next year . . . so needless to say that's pretty great! Also two of my three sisters will be home all summer and OF COURSE that's pretty great!

Final piece of news is that...in case you forgot, I'm single again! This could be a very interesting summer....

Summertime and the livin's easy.

OFFICIALLY DONE WITH THIS YEAR! I am so happy to be home for summer (with 2/3 of my sisters living at home!) Sophomore year of nursing school is finally done, and let me tell you I will be toasting THAT with a strong margarita this weekend.

So, basically my entire life has been put on hold for this semester because I was SOOO busy with school but I'M BACK, and so are the ridiculous stories, so get ready for what looks like it's going to be an unforgettable summer. Let the madness begin. ;)

Winter in New England.

So, I am currently off campus for the weekend, by request of my college because we lost power and have no heat. Gotta love snow.

Clinical

Had my third day of clinical today and am OFFICIALLY exhausted. Waking up at 4:15AM does not do my appearance any justice....but I absolutely love love LOVE what I am doing and wouldn't change it for a second! :)

Busy Busy Busyyyy

So, I have tried to keep up with my new year's resolutions and I've been pretty good, but I am so busy with Nursing school that I haven't had time to write on this! I am currently on my way to the library to study for Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Nursing health assessment....wish me luck.

As my mother would say...."the party is over"

Unfortunately my holiday break is coming to an end. Classes resume on Tuesday and I will be returning to work, schedules, sub-zero weather and a twin size bed....not looking forward to this what-so-ever. Sigh.

Here's to the New Year...

I like to think that every new year offers us the opportunity to be a better person and learn from the past year's experiences. Each and every day of every month for a whole year started over, blemish free of anything unworthy. I can't think of a better reason to improve oneself.

My plans for the 2010 K?

-Read more. Both for pleasure and academically (with the amount of money I spend on textbooks I may as well read them cover to cover right?)
-Run 5 miles every week. I think I can spare 40 minutes of 10,080 right?
-Blog at least once a week ;)
-Spend money ONLY on necessary things. My account balance for 2009...was not at all impressive.
-Be more tolerant. This one is vague on purpose.

I'll keep you posted on how this goes.

Graduate School Intellect Meets Pre-school Behavior...

My Boyfriend CG is currently enrolled in graduate level courses for a degree in Counseling (ironic after you hear the rest of this story) and has been doing very well and has had some great experiences. However, in his last few classes he has been having some issues with a fellow classmate. He and "Su" I'll call her (sensitive and unnecessary) were in a group discussing a situation about how to act as a guidance counselor for a student, a pregnant teen to be exact, if your place of employment did not allow for such a student to receive counseling services.

Su said she thought they should counsel the student anyways and CG (who is very sarcastic) said that "if she did that, she would definitely get fired. Yep definitely get fired." The entire group laughed and he figured they would continue with the class. Oh no, Su was not a fan of the comment and later went up to CG to tell him she thought he was "hurtful and rude," (hence the sensitive). So, he apologized saying "If my comment upset you in anyway I am sorry, I was joking about our prospective situation, I wasn't referring to you personally," and then left.

The next class before CG is about to give the presentation Su walks up to him, slaps him hard on the back, and walks to her seat.... If that wasn't bad enough, during his presentation, Su whispers to the person next to her and says "watch this" then proceeds to question the font and wording on CG's powerpoint, and she disagrees with every theorist he mentions, but was luckily cut off when the Professor states; "actually he is correct," (hence the unnecessary).

CG left class thinking MUCH less of this woman but didn't think too much else about it. Then she contacts him (on facebook) again, stating that she feels "unsafe with him in the class and will be taking this issue to a higher power." Yes, all because he made a joke about their sample situation.

He responded with "Okay, I did not think this was as big of an issue as you do, clearly, and I too will be in contact with the department head regarding this issue. As you are intentionally taking away from my learning experience as well as physically assaulting me. This is both unnecessary and unprofessional. Thanks."

That is all.

I could have DIED when he told me all of this. Su is close to ten years older than I am and I don't know her at all, but I was completely embarrassed for her and also think SHE should be mentally evaluated by a counselor herself before deciding to enter the field as one.

If any of you are in graduate class or have taken courses please let me know if you've ever encountered such behavior at the highest level of education. I think it is completely unacceptable. Maybe if this was high school it would go unnoticed but graduate school? The real world? Haven't we outgrown the urge to hit people in class because they don't agree with us? I mean really. I sincerely hope so but it doesn't seem to be the case.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

Oh New England winter weather. We have a love/hate relationship, I love it, it hates me.
For example:
-Slipping on the ONLY patch of ice in the parking lot? Check.
-While people were watching? Check
-Getting your car stuck in the parking lot because the people who plow, plowed everywhere in that parking lot EXCEPT the row your car is in? Check.
-Having NO classes, OR work cancelled all day so you have to walk around campus against 25mph winds(no joke)? Check.
-Reading on facebook before all of this that your sisters have a RAIN DELAY in CT and get to go into work late as you layer up the Northface and Uggs? Check.

Ugh, well, on the bright side it IS starting to feel like December and there are only 16 more days before Christmas!

A day in the life of a nursing major

So, I don't think I have EVER been so ready for Thanksgiving break in my LIFE! This week I have three exams, two 8 page research papers (one with a presentation), and two journal article presentations with summaries! All do before I leave! So much for my partying days in college....15 hours in the library on Friday night and Saturday morning should be illegal.

Dear God! Have I really not updated my Blog since the beginning of September!?!?

Well! THAT'S a problem. Sorry my blog has become one of the ones that you get news feed about but don't bother checking because A. It sucks, or B. Nothing is ever new! I apologize for being a boring blogger!

Anyways, the reason behind my pitiful page is that I am in college...where I play tennis, study as a nursing major, and have work-study. The only free time during the week I get I am sleeping, studying, or eating. Hopefully this will change when the season ends...since instead of working at the health and counseling center I will most likely end up there needing SERIOUS therapy or have stress-related illness!

Speaking of tennis....we have a new coach this year who taught for 20 years at a D1 college....we aren't D1. He is having a difficult time wrapping his around the fact that our school doesn't PAY us to be playing this sport, in fact we pay a TON just to take classes here...so forgive me if I choose to study over WATCHING the match I am not playing in until 11PM at night which was the only time it could be rescheduled. Tennis is something that I love to do, and nursing is what I PLAN to do for THE REST OF MY LIFE, that's what needs to be priority 1. Thanks though!

I mean I CAN manage my time and make it to as much tennis as I can, and I do, but this past Saturday I took off of studying for my own mental well-being which was probably why I needed all of Monday night to review. That weekend was alumni weekend though so my boyfriend was obviously up (since he is alumni...see my "student with parent" blog in case you forgot that he is 4 1/2 years older than me). So I was so excited to see all of our friends that graduated last spring and we had a good night. His was better than mine though...I remembered for him!

The night started off out to dinner with a bunch of people who graduated with drinks, insane stories I never wanted to hear about his Freshman year, and more drinks. After that we went to a house party where rugby "initiation" was occurring (he played rugby at school...which is why we were there). This basically consisted of kids throwing up in the living room, peeing their pants, or passing out on the lawn...needless to say I made him take me back to school after about 5 minutes. Luckily for us we left since cops showed up to bust the party after an astray player managed to roam the streets alone, pee on a cruiser, and be tasered down after an attempted/successful assault of an officer....lovely. Dear Rugby team, think twice about initiation next year...now that you've finished cleaning bodily fluids off your carpet and bailed everyone out of jail.

After that horrific scene, we went to another house on campus and had a good time, again, C more than me since I maintained my sobriety for practically the whole night (not exactly by choice but by the time I wanted a drink I checked our once overflowing backpack which was now empty compliments of the boy.

I looked at him and go "we have no more beer, or vodka, we should leave."

He looks around the kitchen, finds an unattended backpack, opens it and pulls out a budlight. He then replies with "here Baby, I even sprung for the bottle! You can thank me later..."

Haha! Or I can just thank the kid who it belonged to.

Alumni....

I'm hoping to have more stories later, but since I have matches Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this weekend I'm thinking you will have to wait until next weekend.

That's all for now.

K

Together Again

This weekend the entire family was home! Everything was pretty typical, you know, happy hour, drinks...lots of drinks, shopping, home-cooked food...it was pretty great. It's also my Dad's 50th tomorrow so we took advantage of the opportunity to come home when we were all able to on a non-holiday weekend, which is about as frequent as a blue moon these days. And since none of us have any money since we are all either in college, graduate programs, or still paying off student loans, we decided to write my Dad a poem about the four of us with him growing up in lieu of a gift. Of course he loved it, since writing poems has always been a T family tradition, I'm not quite sure why, my Nana (his mother) was a teacher and always loved English, so maybe that's where we get it. So instead of just giving him the poem we decided it would be a good idea to read it out loud to him, while our mother flip videoed us. Obviously we all cried trying to read it aloud and sister #3 couldn't even get through her verse and sister #2 had to finish for her! Next time we will know better than to apply mascara and eyeliner 5 minutes beforehand.

Back to School

So I just moved into my room at school for tennis preseason and my boyfriend, being the stand-up guy he is, drove down with me (since all my stuff didn't fit into one car....even though I have an SUV!) and helped me move in! He went to the same school I do (which is how we met) and he has created quite the reputation for himself here....and most people know who he is, staff included, which makes it easy for him to get stuff done. We got into my room and saw that I had the old furniture...ugh! Luckily, it took him all of 5 minutes to get someone to switch out all my furniture and get me the new stuff (love him). But when he asked the maintenance guy, he had to call someone else on the walkie-talkie to make sure it was OK first. While he was calling in we heard him say "uh yeah 316? I have a PARENT and a student here moving in with a question, can you meet us at 028?" HAHA! I mean he IS 4 1/2 years older than I am but....I didn't think he looked old enough to have a child in college.....and I didn't think I looked young enough for him to BE my parent....but I guess so. So after that we did not hold hands or kiss until the maintenance crew had left.
